PROJECT 17
How Many Crosleys Are Out There?
So, How Many Crosley Are Out There?
Frequently, at car shows and other auto events, we Crosley owners are often asked,
“How many Crosleys were produced?”
The most reliable documented sources show the following production numbers:
Pre-wars (1939-1942) 5,757
CC/CD (1946-1952) 83,881
*Total Production 89,638
* Documentation compiled from Ward’s Automotive Yearbook annual production tables and surviving Crosley historical records. Which included:
- Ward’s Automobile Yearbook (1946, 1953)
- Crosley Motors factory shipping ledgers (1939–1942), and
- Smithsonian Transportation Archives – (Crosley production note)
The next question is often,
“How many do you think are still around, not necessarily running, but still around?”
According to the most recent Crosley Automobile Club (CAC) Directory (2024), using each club member’s “claims”, there were approximately 1,465 Crosley vehicles (including the Crofton Bug) identified. However, we can be assured that all existing Crosleys ARE NOT accounted for in just the club directory list.
So, help us…
What do you think?
How many Crosleys are out there?
Tell us your best guess and how you arrived at that number, and we will report “your estimated findings and explanations” in an upcoming Dispatch
